Our mission: to support you in setting a milestone

This quote from the celebrated artist can be applied to your conference. Your association may as well leave a wonderful legacy behind. For your industry and your members, for the place and the people who rolled out the red carpet for you.

At FLANDERS Convention Bureau, we value this legacy. We believe that your association’s visit can offer a positive, long-term impact for society. Your conference has the potential to be a milestone in your industry, as well as in the lives of hundreds, thousands and even millions of people.

That is why our experts reflect on the legacy of your conference before it starts, along with a number of Flemish standard bearers in your key industry. After your conference, we map the impact of your conference and provide you with feedback about this.

Environmental performance, certification and accessibility

Environmental impact, certification and accessibility are increasingly important considerations for conference organisers.

In the 2026 Global Destination Sustainability Index, Flanders was ranked 40th among destinations worldwide and achieved a score of 72%, compared with 52.71% in 2019.

Examples of activities and results within the conference sector in Flanders include:

  • 13 of the 37 venues in the Flanders Heritage Venues network (35%) hold a Green Key certificate following independent external audits completed in 2025.
  • Seven conferences underwent an environmental impact measurement in 2026. Three additional measurements are planned before the end of the year.
  • Eleven venues participated in a training programme on the requirements of ISO 14001 in 2026.
  • According to data used for the 2026 Global Destination Sustainability Index assessment, 57% of professional congress organisers (with more than 10 employees) hold independently audited certifications, including ISO 14001, ISO 20121, EMAS, B Corp and Travelife certifications.
