Expo 58

In 1958, Brussels hosted the first post-war World’s Fair. Expo 58 was a celebration of progress and modernity. In the years leading up to the event, the city transformed itself. Boulevards were widened into motorways, exhibition halls were built, and the famous Atomium [WH1] rose as a symbol of the possibilities science and technology seemed to offer.

Brussels’ modest airport was also completely redesigned. It was enlarged significantly, and a brand-new transit building was added to welcome visitors from all over the world. In the spirit of Expo 58, the transit hall was a striking piece of architecture: modern, airy, functional, and full of light - grand in scale yet welcoming in atmosphere. Measuring 100 by 55 metres, with an 18-metre-high glass façade overlooking the runway, it was both an eye-catcher and, for its time, a technological tour de force.

Architectural gem

The transit hall was designed for 3 million visitors a year – an ambitious number at the time –, but nowadays, ten times as many travellers pass through Brussels airport. New terminals were constructed to accommodate them, but the 1958 buildings were kept because of their architectural quality. Recently, the transit hall has been repurposed as Skyhall: a unique congress and event venue offering 6,100 m2 of flexible space across two floors, accommodating up to 2,500 guests. The hall can be configured to suit your needs, from gala dinners to large conferences with multiple breakout rooms. State-of-the-arttechnical facilities come as standard – as do stunning panoramic views of the runways.

An iconic modernist building, exceptional flexibility, cutting-edge equipment, generous space… What more could you ask from a congress venue? Well, we haven’t even touched the main asset of Skyhall yet.

Located at Brussels Airport

Skyhall is one of the most easily accessible meeting venues in the world. Quite simply, you are there when your plane lands. If you wish to stay overnight, it’s a short walk to the four-star Sheraton or one of the other nearby airport hotels.

Brussels Airport also connects directly to the Brussels Ring Road and has its own train station. The city centre is just 15 minutes away, while Antwerp and Ghent can be reached in under an hour. Museums, shops, cafés, and cultural highlights are all nearby, making Skyhall an ideal base for international events.
